Too Old For Me Guy: He’s sixteen years older than me. And he has a kid. He’s short (Seriously. Really short. I’d say maybe 5’5”. On a good day. I’m 5’1”, and with heels on, I was taller than him.). And he’s bald. We met for coffee at 4:30 in the afternoon. I was wondering if maybe I’d misunderstood, and this was actually a dinner date. He probably knows all the good early bird specials in town.
I keep thinking of a scene from Big Daddy – when Adam Sandler’s ex-girlfriend starts dating an older man. She’s impressed because her new boyfriend has already achieved so much in his life and he’s still focused and goal oriented; he’s got a Five Year Plan. Adam Sandler looks at her with a mix of incredulity and disgust and asks, “What is it?! ‘Don’t die’?”
But he’s attractive. And doesn’t look or act as old as he is. He’s energetic, polite, and unassumingly charming. He’s easy and interesting to talk with. He acts like a grown-up. About halfway through our date, I started thinking about if it would be okay if he kissed me.
If you had asked me before the date, I would have told you that if he talked about his kid a lot, it would probably freak me out. But in reality, the more he talked about his kid, the less weird it seemed. And the fact that he was a father turned into something endearing about him.
He didn’t try to kiss me. He shook my hand. And asked me if I’d like to go out again. I said I would, and he said he’ll call me. I wonder how long an adult waits before he calls? I wonder what dating an adult is like? Maybe I’d like it.
